Where have the smarts gone?

I used to have them. Really, I did.

I used to be able to tell you about language endangerment and specific studies into the development of child speech. I used to be able to talk, for almost 10 minutes, about click languages and lexical functional grammar. I used to be able to read and write in phonetics, I could even make some of the more bizarre sounds.

Now, I can't.

I have, however decided, that the knowledge must still reside in my brain somewhere, it doesn't just disappear, so, with a little bit of study, I am sure I can get it back.

So, that is my aim. And, I hope you don't mind, but I am roping you lot in.

Every week, I will be doing a post on something fun* that I have learnt from my Linguistic studies.

Look out for post number 1 - next Monday!

* Disclaimer..... I think it is fun! If you are anything like Steve, you will think that linguistic facts are dull with a capital D.

Love it! Keep the brain going. I think mine has turned to mush, and the only thing I can do to cure it is hit the tax books. *Shudder*

I COULD NOT BE MORE EXCITED! (It took me three attempts to spell excited!) I have my Lexical Functional Grammar book on my desk at all times! It sits there reminding me of those fun times we have when we were intelligent young women discussing dinosaurs, hamsters and falafel! It is currently sitting between a file that contains your wedding stationery samples and a book on Freshwater Fishes oh how times have changed!

Uh, I think you're quite fun already but I will reserve judgement on the potential excitement of linguistics (please edit out all traces of dubiousness from my online voice here).
